چکیده

Rotation is a general phenomenon in astrophysical systems on scales from planets to giant galaxy clusters. It is established during the formation of the system under gravitational compression. Typically the rotation rate is greatly enhanced during this process (Thompson et al. 2003). Rotation of stars defines their shapes and drives the internal circulation which redistributes chemical elements and angular momentum (Maeder 2009). The differential rotation of the Sun is thought to be a key ingredient of its dynamo, a driver of the 11-year activity cycle (Schrijver & Zwaan 2000). The difference in the speed of sunspots at different latitudes was noticed in Galileo’s first observations of sunspots. Since then differential rotation was observed by tracking different photospheric features and by spectral observations of the limb. The angular speed on the visible surface of the Sun smoothly decreases from the equator to the poles. The approximate law, deduced from observations, is usually in the form of

Bistability and hysteresis of dipolar dynamos generated by turbu- lent convection in rotating spherical shells

Bistability and hysteresis of magnetohydrodynamic dipolar dynamos generated by turbulent convection in rotating spherical fluid shells is demonstrated. Hysteresis appears as a transition between two distinct regimes of dipolar dynamos with rather different properties including a pronounced difference in the amplitude of the axisymmetric poloidal field component and in the form of the differenti...

Differential Rotation and Meridional Circulation in Global Models of Solar Convection

In the outer envelope of the Sun and in other stars, differential rotation and meridional circulation are maintained via the redistribution of momentum and energy by convective motions. In order to properly capture such processes in a numerical model, the correct spherical geometry is essential. In this paper I review recent insights into the maintenance of mean flows in the solar interior obta...

Non-Fourier Heat Transfer Analysis of Functionally Graded Spherical Shells under Convection-Radiation Conditions

Non-Fourier heat transfer analysis of functionally graded (FG) spherical shells subjected to the radiative-convective boundary conditions at their inner and outer surfaces are presented. It is assumed that the material properties have continuous variations along the thickness direction. The incremental differential quadrature method (IDQM) as an accurate and computationally efficient numerical ...

Computational aspects of a code to study rotating turbulent convection in spherical shells

The coupling of highly turbulent convection with rotation within a full spherical shell geometry, such as in the solar convection zone, can be studied with the new anelastic spherical harmonic (ASH) code developed to exploit massively parallel architectures. Inter-processor transposes are used to ensure data locality in spectral transforms, a sophisticated load balancing algorithm is implemente...

Confirmation of bistable stellar differential rotation profiles

Context. Solar-like differential rotation is characterized by a rapidly rotating equator and slower poles. However, theoretical models and numerical simulations can also result in a slower equator and faster poles when the overall rotation is slow. Aims. We study the critical rotational influence under which differential rotation flips from solar-like (fast equator, slow poles) to an anti-solar...
